Vegan
To be honest, I agree with the recent articles that we have been reading in class, especially because I'm a vegan. I think that animals have the right to not have to be tested on and get to live their lives. For example, animals shouldn't have to be tested on just to make sure that makeup isn't harmful. There's so many makeup brands that don't test on animals that you can get your makeup from, so what's the point of testing on animals? People have asked me if it's hard to be a vegan, but it's really not! You have to make sure you're still getting enough protein and vitamins which you can easily achieve by eating nuts, tofu, "chicken", hummus, beans, soy, etc. and taking vitamins daily. Being vegan has actually given me a large amount of energy. I've also gotten rid of my "addiction" to coffee. I used to drink coffee daily, but now I only have it when I didn't get much sleep the night before and when I really need it, not to just have it for fun. I used to get headaches if I didn't have coffee and now that's gone away (thankfully). Now this post isn't to convince you to become vegan, it's just my thoughts and what's going on in my brain.

I agree with you one hundred percent. I feel that, as humans being on top of the food chain, we take much for advantage. I have honestly contemplated becoming vegan myself to help make a change. I think that reading your article I am going to attempt to go vegetarian for a short period of time and hopefully that will progress to being a vegan.
ReplyDeleteSo I would like to know who you believe we should test on since you don't think we could test on animals? Although human testing would give us the most accurate results, it isn't a logical option because people simply won't allow it. Like Rifkin said in that video we watched, we extend our empathy to those we see as part of a type of extended family, so humans are going to protect other humans before they try to save an animal because of the closer relatedness. No testing at all also isn't a viable option because that would have a list of negative effects that came with it. And what about medicines for animals? Testing products such as flea medicines and dog shampoo on other animals on other animals gives us more accurate results than testing on humans would, and would be more efficient as well. So in a way, by saying that animals shouldn't be tested on, you are in fact saying that more animals should suffer rather than the small amount who are being tested on.
ReplyDeleteI understand what your saying about animal testing and I agree when it comes to makeup that it shouldn't be tested on animals because it is not a NECESSITY. (yes I think everyone is beautiful in their own way) But in the same sense think about when your sick and your taking antibiotics. Those are animal tested as well helping to advance science and cure diseases and viruses allowing you to prosper in the world. Consider this, whose life is more valuable: the human whom can maybe help find a cure for cancer or a small street rat who can repopulate 200,000 kittens (baby rats) in one year?
