Surveillance. Should we allow it?

I am here sitting wondering whether or not I should turn off my location services or just let it be. I know when we hear surveillance we tend to freak out. Believe it or not we are being watched by the government that is. There are programs such as the NSA but also technology that is starting to be used by law enforcement and many more agencies. This stuff is really creepy if you ask me but believe it or not I don’t really care. I think this surveillance thing has been taken to a whole other level of exaggeration but who knows it could be for our sake. All this surveillance could probably help stop crimes that are being committed. What I don’t quite understand though is why keep all this from the public. Could it be because it’s not right? Many say that we are watched from webcams or even off the kinect system from the xbox one. Could it be true? The fact that the government keeps so many secrets from its people is probably why they are no longer trusted by the public. If the surveillance is to be used for good reasons that will benefit communities and us then why not tell the public. I am usually not a good kid out of school. I do stuff that shouldn’t be done but that shouldn’t be a reason to hate the idea. Plus I have nothing to hide so I guess that is why I don’t mind the idea so much. We all know that google save our history and what we research but really no one knows why it is done. For all we know it could be for a good reason that they are doing it but we cannot judge without facts. I know that I may be tracked when I use my phone for anything. For all I know they probably look at who and what I text but also who I call. In 1984 they had no free speech but good thing we do. That is why I love the first amendment. Just as I sit here typing this I just clicked allow to share my current location with a website. That’s just to show how this surveillance thing doesn’t really bother me that much.

  1. I agree with you Matt. This whole surveillance is being exaggerated. To be honest with you i don't really care for it. Because we don't know when they have started to do this and what their limitations are. We never really care for it until a big rumor is being spread out that catches our attention. But, ever news that is given to us is always made to seem worse than it actually is. The surveillance that has been going on has not affected our lives any differently rather we still go through our everyday lives just fine. Unlike oceania they are completely manipulated and controlled. That is where it gets out of hand.

  2. I agree with you too Matt. The thought of someone watching us is scary, but for all we know it could be for good reasons. The government probably doesn't tell us what's going on because then people would really be paranoid and want to know more information and then things will get out of control. I'd rather keep things how they are and not know what they are doing. As long as it doesn't get out of hand like in 1984 to the point where we have to think like them and go to jail if we don't agree with what they have going on. For now, if you have nothing to hide surveillance isn't an issue.
